At the beginning of this year, because of new laws, I went back on my parents family health plan and stopped paying for my own. It used to cost me ~$200/month for my own plan, and I decided to now contribute that amount to my company's 401k plan.
So I did some simple math and just from contributing this money (that I had already planned on spending for the next 6 years) to a retirement plan, I will have made an ADDITIONAL $248,000 (@7% return) or $369,000 (@8% return) by the time I retire!
In summary, I am spending $0 more than I had planned on spending, my parents are spending $0 more than they planned on spending, and somehow I will end up plus a quarter mil or more...

Kittens eat more than their body weight in muffins
A few weeks ago I came home from work to find that my cats had jumped on top of the fridge, ripped open a plastic bag and eaten two entire HUGE muffins from Wegmans, leaving only the wrappers. I have trouble finishing a whole muffin some mornings- they're ginormous! But my cats are pros...
So today I went to Wegmans and they were selling packs of 4 muffins in a plastic container- the kind that snaps together and also has the price sticker holding it shut. I ended up purchasing 1 more muffin than I wanted, but I knew the cats wouldn't be able to get into them.
I put them on the counter when I got home and left the room for 2 minutes... Obviously they had figured out how to pry the plastic snaps apart and rip the sticker in half!
I'm gonna have to invest in a muffin safe...

Puddle in my cabin
On our cruise a few weeks ago, Mike and I walked up to the customer relations desk one afternoon to hear the end of some lady's rant:
"Well, yes... They vacuumed yesterday but there is still a puddle of water in my cabin! I INSIST that Royal Caribbean provide me with compensation for this!! This is my first time cruising with you and it will be my last!".
After she stormed off, Mike and I laughed about how impatient people can be.
Last week, I was perusing a cruise forum to read about the Allure of the Seas (the ship that I won a cruise on this December) and found this video that was taken on our sailing, just a few decks above our stateroom:
VIDEO (seek to 1:30 for the best part)
Sooooo, I'm sure this wasn't the lady we encountered's video, but maybe she was not overreacting after all...
